The Vision

The Us Against When brand uses fashion and design to translate real peacebuilding and futures work with communities into clothes and artifacts from the future.

The future is a tool for peacebuilding. Imagining alternatives and anticipating conflicts is the first step in transforming the “us against them” of conflict to “us against when” that is a shared value to prevent violent futures. When we interact with concrete examples of what the future could be like, we can talk about conflict in a new way that encourages listening, mutual understanding, and joint exploration of problems.

Ideas to Action

Our products are sensemaking tools. Every project is a process of thinking through a complex situation and considering action. The result? Great looking clothes that make you think, “How can the future be different?”

Phase 01
Engage
A futures workshop or peacebuilding activity with people experiencing or wanting to prevent conflict — producing scenarios, ideas, and concepts for action.

Design
The team synthesizes workshop results and brainstorms potential artifacts from the future — shared with partners and iterated together.

Phase 03
Production
Designs are turned into physical products with the help of fashion experts and collaborators.

Drops
Once production is complete, products are made available in the Us Against When shop.
